Whereas graduation from high school puts Little Sisters ahead of many at-risk girls in Nepal, the opportunity to graduate with a higher degree sets Little Sisters up for a previously unattainable future. The Higher Education Opportunity Fund addresses both the broader challenges Nepali women face, being underrepresented in tertiary education, as well as the specific challenge of limited educational opportunities due to financial constraints. Attaining a bachelor’s degree significantly increases Little Sisters’ lifetime earning potential and leads to improved family health and stability, breaking the cycle of poverty and furthering intergenerational growth and development. This, in turn, gives Little Sisters a chance to rise above the systemic challenges that have limited the potential of Nepalese girls and their families for generations.
