Little Sisters Continue to Show Resilience and Determination

Oct 24, 2025

Hoping for Peace and Prosperity in Nepal

As you may know, the political situation in Nepal is ever-changing. Thankfully, the unrest of earlier this fall has subsided and most daily activities have returned to a more normal pattern. There’s genuine hope for progress, especially with the new female Prime Minister, who seems capable and determined. But as history has shown, political stability has never been Nepal’s greatest strength. It’s such an extraordinary country with remarkable people, yet that lingering instability continues to hold it back.

Throughout this time, as always, the Nepal Team has gone above and beyond to remain in contact with Little Sisters and Coordinating Mentors to ensure Little Sisters are safe and have all the resources and information they need.

We are forever grateful for the support and care of you, our donors, who help us to be a solid and consistent presence in the lives of the Little Sisters, especially in times of upheaval, disorder and uncertainty.

Thank you! Dhanyabaad!

Promoting Mental Health and Well-being

These have been difficult times for Nepal. From the assassination of the king twenty years ago, to the Maoist insurgency and civil war, followed by devastating earthquakes, the COVID pandemic, and now the current overthrow of the government and resulting riots—each has been a country-shaking event. Individually, each of these crises has taken a toll. Collectively, over two decades, they have left deep marks—physical, psychological, and emotional.

Recognizing this lasting impact, LSF will pilot a new program in 2026 focused on supporting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our Little Sisters. We believe this initiative will be immensely valuable to all Little Sisters—both current and future—as they continue to heal, grow, and build brighter futures.

Stay tuned for more information as we develop this program with the help of the Nepal Team, mental health experts in Nepal, Coordinating Mentors and the Little Sisters themselves!

Little Sisters Continue to Excel

Despite all of this turmoil and adversity, Little Sisters continue to show their determination and resilience. They are being chosen as leaders in their schools, winning awards in academic and extracurricular competitions, and sharing their knowledge with younger Little Sisters.

1) Bhumika was elected by her peers to hold a leadership position in her school.

2) Prasamsha, Grade 9, was recognized for her creative writing skills during a workshop organized by her school.

3) Menuka, Grade 7, won 2nd place in the 30 kg weight class at the 17th Annual WUMA Karate Championship.

4) Binita, a 2020 LSF graduate and current 4th-year Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery student at Nepal Medical College, Kathmandu, joined a 12th grade letter writing session to conduct a dengue prevention and awareness session.

New Little Sister Profile: Dilisha

Dilisha’s mother studied up to 12th grade, but because of financial difficulties, her father was only able to complete 5th grade. After moving to Kathmandu in search of better jobs, Dilisha's parents started running a small photo studio. However, their income was not enough to support a family of three, so her parents decided to sell the photo studio. Her father started working as a trekking guide but due to complications of high blood pressure at high altitude, her father was paralyzed and is now bedridden.

Her mother is the only breadwinner in the family, making a small income from selling knitted bags. Dilisha was about to drop out of school when her parents heard about LSF's programs and asked for help with Dilisha's tuition and other school fees.

Dilisha is a sweet girl who likes to go to school. In the evenings, she completes her homework, studies, and watches cartoons for a few minutes. She likes studying Nepali more than other subjects because she enjoys reading Nepali stories the most. Dilisha likes eating dragon fruit, pineapple, potato, cucumber, rice, and lentils. She dreams of becoming an artist.

If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring Dilisha, please reach out to Trevor at trevor@littlesistersfund.org.
